Getting closer to Alaska

Longhouse community Center

Waterfalls everywhere.

Drama in the mountains.

A glacier in May.

Hi JJ and Jesse

Another beautiful anchorage.

Sunrise in Bishop Bay.

Entering Alaskan waters.

Downtown Ketchican.
We had a lovely day rounding Cape Caution...no problems!  Then up through the BC fiords with good weather and mild seas.  Finally made it to Ketchican, Alaska's 4th largest city, and are spending a couple nights here to get more food into the boat, do laundry, catch up with everyone and relax. Dinner out for a change.  And here are some photos we thought you might enjoy.

Port McNeill, May 18

Faster, Dad.  Shore duty is tough.

Fixing things is fun.

They're not getting out of here without me.

Sleepy time.
Port McNeill  - provisions and showers and great weather.  Miss you all.  With love, Carol and John

We're sitting on someone's porch, surrounded by hummingbirds, catching up with email after 3 days of very high winds on the Georgia Straight. Caught a crab for dinner, and watching for the neighborhood grizzly bear to cross the tide flat.  All is well, and we are having a great time.  Life is so very different here. And, David, I can't put the book down!!!!!   Love, Carol  Port McNeill tomorrow...help with internet and photos!

Monday, May 7, 2012

OK, folks, we are almost ready. The Walkabout is packed full of goodies, dogwood, warm clothes and fresh water and fuel.  We're waiting for the computer map chip, and will set sail tomorrow, May 8!  Buddy says "Let's go home!"  Thank you, Jeff Smith, for the photos and help with the preparations.
Ever watchful Captain!

As always, lots of love.

Cleaning all surfaces!

walkabout to alaska

John and Buddy and I set sail for Alaska on Monday, May 7, 2012. We have been preparing for this trip for a long time and the Walkabout is clean and comfortable and seaworthy.  We would like to keep our family and friends informed (but hopefully not bored) so we are creating this blog through google. It will have lots of photos and few words.  Posts will be infrequent as we will not always be in a communication spot. See you soon!  Carol
