From Petersburg

entering misty fiords

18 big ones

Crab quesedillas, picked crab, crabcakes, crab omelets!

An anchorage we hated to leave!
We visited Misty Fiords , SW of Ketchikan, a beautiful, 5-million acre rainforest with stunning anchorages and waterfalls to astound!  In one spot we set out our crab pot and got 18 big ones!  We could only keep a few, ( well, a few more, too) so had several great crab dinners.  Then on to Wrangle through lots of heavy rain. The sun came out and we actually had enough wind to get all three sails up for the afternoon.  Now we are in Petersburg, surrounded by fisherpersons. Life is an amazing adventure.

From Petersburg

After Ketchikan, we tried to escape heavy winds and currents by visiting Misty Fiords National Monument, a 5-million-acre rainforest and mountainous wonder.  Pictures cannot do it justice.

approaching "punch-bowl, a fabulous little bay completely surrounded by 600-foot vertical walls and cascading waterfalls

More shore duty

18 big ones!

Crab quesedillas,, cracked crab, crabcakes and crab omelets!

An anchorage we didn't want to leave!
Then on toward Wrangle with some lovely anchorages along the way.  The sun finally came out in Wrangle Bay and we actually got all three sails up with adequate wind to sail for most of the afternoon.  We are in Petersburg now, doing the usual thing...laundry, blog, provisions, and relaxing with a great dinner of crabcakes! Our best wishes to JJ, who turns 5 on July 4, and to Naomi, John's daughter whose birthday was yesterday!  We love you.

Getting closer to Alaska

Longhouse community Center

Waterfalls everywhere.

Drama in the mountains.

A glacier in May.

Hi JJ and Jesse

Another beautiful anchorage.

Sunrise in Bishop Bay.

Entering Alaskan waters.

Downtown Ketchican.
We had a lovely day rounding Cape Caution...no problems!  Then up through the BC fiords with good weather and mild seas.  Finally made it to Ketchican, Alaska's 4th largest city, and are spending a couple nights here to get more food into the boat, do laundry, catch up with everyone and relax. Dinner out for a change.  And here are some photos we thought you might enjoy.

Port McNeill, May 18

Faster, Dad.  Shore duty is tough.

Fixing things is fun.

They're not getting out of here without me.

Sleepy time.
Port McNeill  - provisions and showers and great weather.  Miss you all.  With love, Carol and John

We're sitting on someone's porch, surrounded by hummingbirds, catching up with email after 3 days of very high winds on the Georgia Straight. Caught a crab for dinner, and watching for the neighborhood grizzly bear to cross the tide flat.  All is well, and we are having a great time.  Life is so very different here. And, David, I can't put the book down!!!!!   Love, Carol  Port McNeill tomorrow...help with internet and photos!
